Achievements

Retroactive awards, manual badge grants, and keeping your club's badges current.

Members earn badges and Fathoms automatically from the club's history — the member-facing side is covered in Achievements & Fathoms. As an admin, Admin → Achievements gives you three tools on top of that: a retroactive recalculation, manual grants, and a list of recent awards.

Awards read history — they never change it

Achievements are recognition only. They're derived from what already happened (completed sails, debriefs, credentials, courses) and never feed back into skipper eligibility, bookings, or any other rule.

Run the retroactive sweep, grant a badge by hand for pre-platform history, and remove a manual grant.

How awards happen on their own

Day to day there's nothing to run. Badges and Fathoms are awarded the moment the underlying event lands — a sail completes, a debrief note or gear flag is saved, you grant a certification or endorsement, a course enrollment completes, someone is promoted off a standby list — and a nightly sweep backstops the badges that depend on time windows drifting into range.

Retroactive awards

Recalculate achievements scans the club's full history — sails, debriefs, certifications, courses — and awards every badge and Fathom it already earns. Use it when your club joins Zeil with existing records, or whenever you want to be sure everything is current.

It's safe to press any number of times: nothing is ever awarded twice, and members are only notified about genuinely new awards. The result tells you what happened — how many member badges and club milestones were awarded, or that everything was already up to date.

Granting a badge manually

For history the platform never saw — sails from before the club moved online, courses run elsewhere — you can grant a badge directly: pick the member, the badge (and level), and optionally a note explaining why. The member is notified, the badge's Fathoms are credited, and the award is marked Manual, with granted by an admin shown in the member's badge detail.

Removing a badge

Only manual grants can be removed — use Remove next to the Manual pill in the recent-awards list. Removing a grant also removes its bonus Fathoms, and a recalculation won't bring it back.

Automatically derived awards can't be removed: they reflect real recorded history, so the next recalculation would simply award them again. If a derived award looks wrong, the underlying record is the thing to fix.

Recent awards

The page ends with the club's most recent awards, each tagged with its source:

  • Manual — granted by an admin (the only kind with a Remove button).
  • Derived — computed from club history, by the automatic hooks or a recalculation.
  • Event — captured at the moment it happened, like coming off a standby list.

Recalculations, manual grants, and removals are all recorded in the audit log.
