Roles & permissions

A side-by-side of what members and administrators can do in a club.

Each membership in a club has a role: member or admin. Your role is per club, so you can be an admin at one club and a member at another. Here's who can do what.

Clubs that run a sailing school also have a third, lighter role — student — for people who register for courses. A student can browse courses and see My courses, but doesn't get the booking and crew tools a full member has. Registering for a course adds you as a student if you weren't already part of the club; if you're already a member or admin, your role stays as it is.

Notes

  • Admins are also members. Every admin can do everything a member can; the table only highlights the additional powers.
  • Roles are reversible. An admin can promote a member to admin or demote them back at any time — with two safeguards: an admin can't remove their own admin role, and the club's last remaining admin can't be demoted until another admin is promoted. See Members & roles.
  • Suspension is separate from role. A suspended membership loses access regardless of role until it's reactivated.
  • Student limits are enforced, not just hidden. Booking and crew pages and actions require the member role — a student who lands on one is sent to My courses. Students also don't appear in the crew-invite search, so they can't be added to a crew.
  • Members-only courses are the exception to course registration. A club can mark a course members only — only active members and admins can see it and register. Students and visitors can't.
